Galaxy S4 Display Problem - How to Remove Smearing On Black Background [Solution]

Samsung's latest flagship device Galaxy S4 suffers from a major issue with its display which is the smearing issue. The issue has been observed in every model such as i9500, i9505 and i9502. While scrolling over black background, the screen shows the smearing similar to how an LCD screen gets distorted when pressed too hard. The effect can be best seen on black background with brightness set to low. Try scrolling a page with a black background with grey text and you can see some erratic color distortion on your display. It does not smear in toolbox or video because the background is not completely black.

The root cause of this issue is that the colors are not getting rendered properly on AMOLED screen. Here's quick solution how can you fix the problem.

Solution to Galaxy S4 Smearing Issue

The said problem is prominent on black background with gray text so we will be making some changes in your RGB values. We can fix the issue if we override the default RGV values. You will have to download app 'screen adjuster ' from Google play. This app helps in adjusting defaults  values of your screen.

Steps to follow:
1. Install 'Screen Adjuster' app from Play store.
2. Go to options and change the contrast level from -0 to -10 (you can go upto -20 depending on how far your eyes can balance between smearing and pitch black)
3. Turn on the adjuster.

There is a small problem in using the app is that it disables the 'Install' button when it is running so whenever you want to install new apps, you will have to disable the screen adjuster and install the app. Enable screen adjuster again when you are done. For now this is the temporary solution that has been discovered, and hopefully Samsung releases a patch to fix this problem. Have you encountered this issue? Do you know of any other methods to solve this? Let us know in the comments.

Android OS 4.1 jellybean update for Samsung chat B5330 : Download using kies

Samsung has just rolled out its Android 4.1 Jellybean update for Samsung Chat B5330. The Samsung chat is a QWERTY keypad and touchscreen Android smart phone from Samsung. It's a good sign for other low-end phone users as they are getting the latest OS updates. You can download the update for your Samsung Chat phone using Samsung Kies software. The update is also available over-the-air so you can update your firmware right from your phone.

How to update Jellybean 4.1 on Samsung Chat phone

The new update has a serial code  B5330XXUBMD2. Once your device is ready for an update, you'll get a notification to download and install it. You can manually update the phone via Settings >> About Phone >> Software Update >> Update. This update will bring some of the latest features of Android to this QWERTY phone. We're expecting to see lot of improvements over the 4.0 ICS but not all the features like multiwindow screen - split screen will be supported by the phone as it might not have enough power to run them.

The total size of the update is 322 MB and the update is being rolled out in phases as usual. So if you don't see an update notification in your phone then you can go to the authorized Samsung Service Center and get your phone updated with the latest OS.

Generally the low and mid tier smart phones are usually left on the older operating systems but it seems like Samsung is starting to give more importance to its more popular phones irrespective of their market price.

Enable GoogleNow for your Country on iPhone or iPad: GoogleNowEnabler iOS Jailbreak Tweak

Google recently updated their iOS Search app with the features of Google Now. Unfortunately these new features were restricted to only the US and not for the rest of the world. Google probably decided to enable these features in one country first as a beta test and then rolling out the feature to the rest of the world after fixing out any kinks that are found.

How to enable Google Now for your country

Google Now is basically Google's own version of the virtual assistant Siri and while it wont have the deep integration into iOS as Siri does, Google Now is a good deal more accurate in its speech recognition and faster in its web search. The GoogleNowEnabler tweak unlocks the full set of features for whichever country you are in thus allowing you to make the full use of the App itself. The tweak is available for free on the ModMyi repo which comes added by default into Cydia.

One of the prerequisites for the tweak is of course to have the latest version of Google Search App installed, and the rest is taken care of by the tweak as just installing it unlocks the hidden features in the App. Recently the iOS Jailbreak community has been extremely active bringing out more and more tweaks and showing more innovation with their new ideas and the GoogleNowEnabler tweak is an example of how quick the Jailbreak community is responding to any updates in the ecosystem as the App was only released a couple of days ago.

We tried out the tweak to check out the Google Now features, and we have to admit that it is pretty good and it seems that there arent many exclusive features left that the Android OS has and which haven't been ported to iOS. So check out the GoogleNowEnabler tweak which will unlock the Google Now features for your country, available on the ModMyi repo and let us know what you think of it in the comments section.
