There are reasons why your S4 takes more time to charge than you anticipated.

We tested our S4 device with various chargers. We used USB cable, Sony Xperia charger and the stock S4 charger. here's the complete breakdown and please note that the time has been calculated for the charging started at  0% and ends at 100%.

Slow Charging of Samsung Galaxy S4

Stock charger 2 hour 21 minutes
USB 6 hours
Xperia X10 Charger 4 hours 30 minutes

Charging through USB

This can be the probable cause why your phone takes more time to charge. Charging via USB-port will always be slower than the original charger. USB pulls between 300mA and 500mA while charging. That too depends on if you're using front or back the USB. The quality of the USB also affects the rate at which it gets charged. Every smart phone has battery of a particular size and it is to be charged at  the pre-decided rate.

We have also noticed that the stock charging cable provided with a device charge faster than the other cables. So make sure to use stock cables while you charge through USB.

Charging with different charger

Charging will be slower if you're using chargers manufactured by other brands -BlackBerry, Sony, HTC or even Samsung chargers (Galaxy S3, note 2).  If you're trying to charge 2600mAH with any other chargers including any Samsung charger,  the rate at which it gets charged will be slower and it will affect the life of your battery.

Solution

Original Galaxy S4 Chargers Chargers with 2000mA which is a huge difference compared to the USB chargers. With original charger S4 recharges from 0 to 100 in 2 hour 21 minutes which is pretty good for a phone with monstrous battery of 2600 mAH. Just use the stock Chargers provided  with Samsung Galaxy S4 and avoid using charging via USB ports.
